Demos > ADA & WCAG Accessibility Compliance
Scientific interfaces deal with complex data and pose a significant challenge for those with disabilities. Yet, no disability should be a reason for an individual to be excluded from using scientific software as an abled person would. Standards like the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provide guidelines for accessible software tools, yet achieving such standards for scientific software may seem like an impossible task. In this demo, we show how you may make accessible interfaces using the ChemDoodle Web Components.
A few things to note:
- This is just a demo. In the end, ADA/WCAG compliance is a feature of the product you incorporate the ChemDoodle Web Components into, not of the individual ChemDoodle Web Components.
- These accessibility features are just some possibilities for enabling your chemistry interfaces for all of your users. Much more can be done with the ChemDoodle Web Components and these features can be applied to more than just the sketcher.
- Speech describes hovered objects. Hovering is not possible on mobile devices, and a different input method will be needed for accessing spoken descriptions on mobile devices.
